Islamic State terror group launched a major recruitment drive last year to deploy militants based out of Central Asian countries including Tajikistan, western and other intelligence services said.
Three of the four suspected terrorists arrested by the Russian security forces for the attack at a Moscow concert hall — the worst terror attack in Russia in decades — are reportedly Tajik nationals.
One of the three is even heard speaking Tajik during the interrogation of four alleged attackers detained by the Russian security forces.

U.S. President Donald Trump has set off a storm of speculation after telling supporters, “I’m going to Russia,” just days before his planned August 15 meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. This summit—the first face-to-face between the leaders since Trump’s return to the White House—was expected to focus on ending the war in Ukraine, with Trump hinting at a controversial “territory swap” proposal.
Alaska was chosen for its proximity to Russia across the Bering Strait, but Trump’s new remark has fueled rumors the venue could shift to Russian soil. For Moscow, the meeting is already being hailed as a diplomatic victory, marking Putin’s first U.S. invitation outside the U.N. since 2007. But if the location changes, the optics and stakes could transform overnight, raising fresh questions about U.S. strategy, Ukraine’s voice in negotiations, and Trump’s real intentions.

In a high-stakes diplomatic moment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and proposed a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
The call comes as India faces escalating tariff threats from Donald Trump over its continued purchase of Russian oil — a key source of funding for Moscow’s war machine, according to Washington.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for Modi’s warm words but urged stronger support from India, hinting at a potential turning point in New Delhi’s balancing act between East and West.
With the Ukraine war dragging into its fourth year, global pressure is mounting. Will India hold its neutral stance — or step further into the geopolitical crossfire?

Russia has issued a stark new warning to the United States over what it calls an alarming surge in US missile systems positioned in regions with a “direct impact” on Russia’s security. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov declared that Moscow is abandoning its self-imposed moratorium on missile deployments in response, accusing Washington of pushing the situation toward dangerous escalation.
Ryabkov also hinted at the existence of other advanced Russian weapons beyond the newly unveiled Oreshnik missile system, saying only that “we did not waste time” in preparing them. He refused to disclose further details, adding to the intrigue surrounding Russia’s military capabilities. The statement underscores Moscow’s growing unease over NATO-linked deployments near its borders and sets the stage for a new era of military posturing. With tensions already heightened by the Ukraine conflict, this latest warning raises the risk of an intensified arms race between the world’s largest nuclear powers.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly not been invited to the upcoming Trump–Putin peace summit in Alaska on August 15, raising concerns of a diplomatic sidelining. White House sources say the meeting will focus on U.S.–Russia dialogue at Moscow’s request. While Trump has floated territorial swaps as a path to peace, Zelensky rejects the idea, citing constitutional limits. The Kremlin insists talks must address Crimea and four regions annexed in 2022, while Ukraine refuses any concessions, leaving negotiations at an impasse.

Breaking news surrounding Taylor Swift's canceled Eras Tour concerts in Vienna last year: German authorities have arrested a Syrian national on allegations of supporting the foiled terrorist attack targeting one of Swift's shows. In a press release, authorities identified the national as Mohammad A., a minor. Prosecutors said that the suspect supported the ideology of the Islamic State group and that, between mid-July and August last year, he was in contact with a young adult from Austria who was planning a bomb attack on one of Swift's concerts in Vienna.

Suspects in the March 2024 Crocus City Hall massacre that killed 149 people have reportedly told Russian investigators that a Ukrainian state entity ordered the attack. According to interrogation transcripts cited by Russian media, the attackers — all Tajik nationals — said the assault was executed by ISIS-K but coordinated through a handler named "Saifullo" linked to Ukraine.
The suspects were allegedly promised $13,000 each and instructed to flee to Kiev after the attack. They claimed their weapons came from Ukraine, with operational guidance originating from Türkiye and Afghanistan. Ukraine has denied any role in the incident, though it has previously admitted to sabotage inside Russian territory. The attack, which also injured over 600 people, marks one of the deadliest in Russia in recent memory. Questions persist around the true orchestrators of the massacre and whether foreign intelligence or proxy actors were involved.
