Protests Erupt in Mexico City Over Gaza Conflict, Israeli Embassy Set Ablaze | Video Out
In a significant escalation of protests, clashes erupted in Mexico City on Tuesday as demonstrators rallied against the ongoing war in Gaza.
The “Urgent action for Rafah” demonstration, which drew about 200 people, took place outside the Israeli embassy in the city's Lomas de Chapultepec neighbourhood.
The protests were sparked by recent Israeli military actions in Gaza, particularly the deadly bombing of a displacement camp outside Rafah on Sunday.
In a brazen daylight attack, two close aides of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada were gunned down on a busy street, sending shockwaves through the capital. The victims — Ximena Guzman, Brugada’s personal secretary, and Jose Muñoz, an adviser — were ambushed by motorcycle-riding gunmen, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum. The attack, which occurred in central Mexico City, is the latest in a string of violent assaults targeting public officials.

In a major battlefield blow, five Israeli soldiers were killed and two critically wounded after a booby-trapped building exploded during a raid in Khan Yunis, Gaza. Israeli rescue operations followed under heavy fire. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes killed 52 Palestinians, including civilians and journalists, as Eid al-Adha prayers echoed through Gaza's war-torn skies.

Israel has issued a stern warning that it is prepared to raid the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla ship ‘Madleen,’ which carries humanitarian aid and activists, including Greta Thunberg. The ship, which departed Sicily on June 2, is loaded with food and medical supplies meant for Palestinians. The Israeli navy says it will intercept the vessel if it nears Gaza’s waters, citing national security. Thunberg, along with actor Liam Cunningham and MEP Rima Hassan, say the mission aims to challenge Israel’s blockade and support Palestinian resistance amid worsening humanitarian conditions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted to secretly arming militias in Gaza to fight Hamas—without cabinet approval—sparking political uproar. Opposition leaders, including Avigdor Liberman and Yair Lapid, condemned the move, warning these militias could turn against Israel. Critics say Netanyahu is empowering extremists akin to “ISIS,” destabilizing Gaza further. Hamas denounced the militias as criminal traitors, vowing retaliation. With no oversight or long-term strategy, concerns grow over the explosive consequences of Netanyahu’s covert weapons program.

Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz has threatened further strikes on Lebanon unless Hezbollah disarms, following recent airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The IDF claims it targeted an Iran-backed Hezbollah drone unit, though Hezbollah denies this. Lebanon’s President Aoun condemned the attack as a breach of international law, accusing Israel of endangering civilians to make a political statement. With tensions high and ceasefire lines crossed repeatedly, Lebanon's leaders demand international action to stop what they call systematic Israeli aggression.

During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the BBC for its reporting on an alleged Israeli tank strike near an aid center in Rafah. Leavitt accused the outlet of relying too heavily on Hamas claims and pointed to several changing headlines as evidence of misinformation. The administration says it is verifying facts independently, suggesting the BBC prematurely blamed Israel. The clash reignites debates over media credibility, Middle East coverage, and the challenge of reporting from conflict zones.

An Israeli attack near a U.S.-backed aid distribution site in Gaza's Rafah killed at least 31 people, according to local health authorities. As ceasefire negotiations falter, blame is being traded between Hamas and Israel over the tragic incident. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which operates the site, denies any casualties. Meanwhile, Israel's military claims no knowledge of civilian injuries from its fire. The deadly strike comes amid failed truce talks, escalating violence, and accusations that aid is being weaponized. Over 54,000 Palestinians have died in Israel's ongoing Gaza offensive.

At least 31 people have been killed near an aid distribution centre in the Rafah area of southern Gaza, according to the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry. Sky News
Chaos erupted at a new aid site in Rafah as American security contractors guarding a US-Israeli-backed aid group fired stun grenades and live rounds at desperate Palestinian civilians. The incident left dozens injured. Thousands had overrun the compound operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which bypasses the UN system. Aid agencies and the UN have condemned the operation, warning it endangers lives and violates humanitarian principles. Israel supports GHF’s model, claiming it prevents Hamas interference — a charge Hamas denies. The UN calls the scenes from Rafah "heartbreaking."
