A Massive fire breaks out on a Maersk containership in the Arabian Sea, rescue operation underway
The Indian Coast Guard Dornier and ships Sachet, Sujeet, and Samrat, including an additional aircraft, were immediately deployed into action after its control room in Mumbai received an emergency call from container carrier MV Maersk Frankfurt 50 NM off Karwar on Friday night regarding a major fire onboard.
In a dramatic turn of events, an Indian Coast Guard helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea off the Porbandar coast during a rescue operation. With two pilots and two divers onboard, the helicopter went down late Monday night while attempting to evacuate a critically injured crew member from a vessel. One diver has been recovered and is in stable condition, but the search for the remaining diver and two pilots continues. The Indian Coast Guard has deployed multiple ships and aircraft in a race against time to locate the missing aircrew.
