A Massive fire breaks out on a Maersk containership in the Arabian Sea, rescue operation underway
The Indian Coast GuardDornier and ships Sachet, Sujeet, and Samrat, including an additional aircraft, were immediately deployed into action after its control room in Mumbai received an emergency call from container carrier MV Maersk Frankfurt 50 NM off Karwar on Friday night regarding a major fire onboard.
A massive explosion rocked the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 off Kerala’s coast on Monday. The underdeck blast triggered thick smoke and fire, prompting 18 of the 22 crew to abandon ship. The Indian Navy swiftly diverted INS Surat for rescue, while the Coast Guard joined evacuation efforts. The vessel, en route from Colombo to Mumbai, remains adrift and burning. The Navy is deploying a Dornier aircraft to assess the situation. The incident follows a recent cargo ship sinking nearby.
