Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has launched a scathing attack on French President Emmanuel Macron and German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, accusing them of attempting to revive Europe's imperialist past. Speaking at a diplomatic event, Lavrov warned that Western leaders were reverting to their “former instincts” of conquest and domination, drawing chilling comparisons between today’s political climate and Nazi-era atrocities.
He further stated that “German and Ukrainian Nazis are united by their attitudes toward those they want to enslave,” claiming that just as some “burned Jews,” others now “burn Russians.” Lavrov’s remarks come amid intensifying tensions between Moscow and the West over the war in Ukraine, NATO expansion, and growing European militarization.
The inflammatory comments are expected to draw condemnation from European capitals but are in line with Russia’s narrative of positioning itself as a bulwark against Western hegemony and what it calls modern-day fascism.

Russia has launched its largest aerial attack on Ukraine since the war began, according to Ukrainian officials. Overnight, a staggering 537 aerial weapons — including 477 drones and decoys, and 60 missiles — were fired at targets across Ukraine.
Ukraine's air force reported that 249 were shot down and 226 were likely disrupted by electronic jamming. Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for Ukraine’s air force, called the strike “the most massive air attack” yet. Areas far from the frontlines, including western Ukraine, were hit. Poland scrambled jets to protect its airspace. Casualties included one dead in Kherson and six injured in Cherkasy, including a child. This assault follows a wave of similar attacks earlier this month, which had already been labelled the most powerful at that point in the war. Damage was reported in Kharkiv, where multiple residential buildings and houses were struck. The escalation signals a grim turn in the nearly three-year conflict.
