Ceasefire Calls Dominate G20 Summit | Leaders Push for Peace in Gaza and Lebanon, Hostage Release
During the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, global leaders were pressured by widespread protests to address ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
Demonstrators, including religious and climate activists, gathered to call for an immediate ceasefire and demanded that world leaders push for peace, the release of hostages, and stronger action on climate change and indigenous land rights.
Among them, Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss urged leaders to step up and stop the violence in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasising the need for a unified global response to humanitarian crises.
The summit's discussions focused on securing a comprehensive ceasefire, protecting civilian safety, and finding ways to support both peace and climate initiatives, with protesters demanding that leaders listen to their voices.
Hamas has condemned Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahuâs âGreater Israelâ remarks as âmadnessâ and a threat to regional stability, urging Arab states to cut ties with Israel and back Palestinian resistance. Hamas accused Israel of using settler violence as part of an annexation strategy in the West Bank, vowing continued defiance against occupation. Iranâs Foreign Ministry also slammed the plan, warning it targets territories in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Netanyahu called the vision a historical and spiritual mission for Israel.
