Hong Kong: 45 pro-democracy activists sentenced to prison in biggest national security case
A Hong Kong court has handed prison sentences to 45 democracy advocates in the city's largest trial under the 2020 national security law, with rights groups condemning the verdict.
Typhoon Podul slammed into Taiwan’s Taitung County on Wednesday, forcing school and government office closures across nine cities, including Kaohsiung and Tainan. Moving at 36 km/h toward the Taiwan Strait and China, the storm triggered over 380 flight cancellations and the evacuation of more than 5,500 residents from vulnerable areas. Authorities warned of up to 600 mm of rainfall in mountain regions, risking floods and landslides. Hong Kong issued a Signal One warning, while China’s Fujian Province braces for Podul’s impact later this week.
