Relatives of Venezuelans imprisoned in El Salvador held a protest outside the UN offices in Caracas on Tuesday, denouncing what they called “kidnappings” by Salvadoran authorities.

Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello launched a scathing attack on US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, comparing her visit to an El Salvador prison housing deported Venezuelans to a “zoo tour.” The remarks come as 178 migrants deported from the US arrived in Venezuela, amid rising tensions between Washington and Caracas. Cabello accused the US of treating Latinos as less than human, while also questioning why deportees weren’t prosecuted in the US instead.
