Ex-defence secretary warns Israel against 'killing rage' in Gaza
Monday, 18 December 2023 Former defence secretary Ben Wallace has warned Israel risks losing its "legal" and "moral" authority if it continues with its "killing rage" in Gaza, as he appealed to all sides to pursue a two-state solution.
Speaking on a visit to Egypt, Britain's Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron calls for "a sustainable ceasefire" in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Cameron goes on to deny "double standards" when it comes to the UK's view of fighting in Ukraine and Gaza, calling the situation in Ukraine "incredibly simple."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on May 5 that his government had unanimously voted to close down the local offices of Al Jazeera, a broadcaster owned by Qatar. Netanyahu announced the decision on X, formerly known as Twitter, but specifics regarding the implications, timing, and permanence of the closure remained unclear. This move marks an escalation in Israel's longstanding dispute with Al Jazeera and raises tensions with Qatar, particularly significant as Qatar is actively involved in mediating efforts to end the conflict in Gaza.
