Farmers of Punjab still looking for Swaminathan in govt's MSP formula

IndiaTimes Friday, 29 September 2023
Punjab farmers are demanding a reasonable minimum support price (MSP) for wheat and paddy based on agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan's formula, which suggests raising the MSP to at least 50% above the average cost of production. The farmers claim that the government uses its own formula, resulting in significantly lower MSP. The Swaminathan recommendations, including the MSP formula, were a key aspect of the protests against the farm laws. Farmers are calling for the implementation of the Swaminathan formula to ensure fair returns.
