After 400 years, men in Kaithoon are giving up on the loom

IndiaTimes Sunday, 22 October 2023
The weaver village of Kaithoon in Rajasthan, known for producing the famous Kota Doria fabric, is facing challenges due to meagre earnings. The village has around 1,500 weavers, mostly women, as the men have switched to other occupations. Although the Kota Doria fabric has been selected for a government scheme promoting local products, the weavers believe celebrity promotion is needed. Weaving has been a part of life in Kaithoon since the 17th century, but the younger generation is reluctant to pursue the craft due to low wages.
