Charged ₹20 for a carry bag, shopper wins ₹3,000 from MNC
Monday, 23 October 2023 A woman in Bengaluru took Ikea to a consumer court after being charged Rs 20 for a branded carry bag. The court ruled in her favor, stating that Ikea was guilty of unfair trade practice and that the seller should bear the cost of putting goods in a deliverable state. The court ordered Ikea to refund the Rs 20 for the bag and pay the woman Rs 3,000 in compensation. The judges expressed shock at the attitude of big showrooms and emphasized that customers should be suitably compensated.
A legal complaint has been lodged against Tejasvi Surya, the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Bengaluru South and incumbent Member of Parliament, for allegedly appealing for votes based on religious affiliations. The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer released a statement via the microblogging platform X, asserting that Mr. Surya had shared a video on social media explicitly soliciting votes on religious grounds. The case has been officially registered with the Jayanagar police station in Bengaluru.
