The village of Sangola in Akola district, India, has a unique tradition of worshiping the demon king Ravana. The village harbors a stone idol of Ravana, and on Dussehra and every Saturday, the idol comes alive. The villagers believe that Ravana was a great king, scholar, warrior, and artist, and they only worship the positive side of his personality. The idol was created by mistake by a sculptor, but when villagers brought it to the village, the bulls refused to move further, so the idol was fixed on the village border and worshipped.
