Kerala govt opposes NCERT's proposal to rename 'India' as 'Bharat' in school textbooks
Thursday, 26 October 2023
The Left government in Kerala has strongly opposed the suggestion by the NCERT panel to replace "India" with "Bharat" in school textbooks. The government called it a form of "parochial politics" and alleged that there was a deliberate effort to "saffronise" the curriculum. The state Education Minister asserted that Kerala would reject the panel's recommendation and stated that every citizen has the right to use either "India" or "Bharat" as mentioned in the Constitution. The government plans to convene the State Curriculum Committee to discuss the preparation of textbooks.
