Diwali warning: Banned chemicals found in 64% of firecrackers, says study

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Independent tests conducted by the Awaaz Foundation on firecrackers revealed the presence of prohibited chemicals such as barium monoxide, which can cause various health issues. Surprisingly, these banned chemicals were found in "green crackers" that had received approval from government authorities. The foundation has alerted the state government about the findings and highlighted that many firecrackers contain substances banned by the Supreme Court. It has also pointed out that green crackers are required to have QR codes indicating the absence of banned chemicals, but previous tests have shown that these QR codes were fake.
