Thursday, 9 November 2023 India has appealed against the death sentence awarded to eight of its citizens by a Qatari court. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the embassy in Doha had received consular access to the detainees and remains engaged with Qatari authorities over the matter. The retired Indian Navy personnel were taken into custody in 2022 and have been kept in solitary confinement without the reasons for their detention being specified. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed shock over the verdict and stated that the government is exploring all legal options
