Rising diabetes curve: A warning for India

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 14 November 2023
India currently has over 100 million confirmed or undiagnosed cases of diabetes, and this number is expected to double within the next 20 years. Diabetes is a chronic disease and is the leading cause of various health complications such as blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower limb amputation. The prevalence of diabetes is increasing globally, with over half a billion confirmed cases in 2021. India had 74 million confirmed cases two years ago, and it is estimated that there are also approximately half as many undiagnosed cases due to lack of regular screening.
