Independent candidate contesting Telangana poll ends life over online 'sextortion'

An independent candidate in the Telangana assembly polls allegedly died by suicide after being targeted by cyber fraudsters attempting to extort money from him. The fraudsters threatened to upload a video of him recorded during a video call with a woman, along with his nomination paper, on social media. The candidate refused to pay the demanded amount and the fraudsters shared a portion of the video and other explicit images. A case has been registered and investigations are ongoing, but the election in the constituency will not be postponed.
