Outreach pays off, tribal vote shifts from Congress to BJP
Monday, 4 December 2023 Elections in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Telangana were a battle for tribal votes. BJP won over the key tribal demographic and secured a majority of ST seats in Chhattisgarh, MP, and Rajasthan. However, in Telangana, Congress won the majority of ST seats. BJP has focused on the tribal community since 2014, using symbolism and development works to appeal to them. Congress also relied heavily on the ST community, making welfare promises and emphasizing self-respect.
BJP surprised by retaining Madhya Pradesh, making a strong comeback in Rajasthan, and notably, leading in Chhattisgarh with a 2/3rd majority. CM Bhupesh Baghel and key Congress leaders trail as BJP's tribal outreach aids its success in these states.
