Bilkis Bano case: Supreme Court quashes Gujarat government's remission order for all 11 convicts

The Supreme Court on Monday quashed the Gujarat government's order in the Blikis Bano case. The court held that the state of Gujarat was not competent to pass the remission orders in the case. The court said that the government within whose jurisdiction an offender is tried and sentenced was allowed to decide the remission of sentence of the convict. The division bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan delivered the verdict. Bilkis had approached the apex court against the remission order in November 2022.
