India nominates three cities for global wetland recommendation
India has submitted nominations of three cities - Indore, Bhopal and Udaipur - for Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) under the Ramsar Convention. The accreditation is granted to cities that satisfy international criteria, including having Ramsar sites within their jurisdiction and implementing exceptional conservation measures. The environment ministry highlighted the benefits of wetlands in and around these cities, such as flood regulation, livelihood opportunities, and recreational values. Currently, 75 wetlands in India are protected under the Ramsar Convention.
