Final draft of Uttarakhand UCC calls for polygamy ban, exempts STs

A committee comprising five members, tasked with formulating a Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, presented its final draft report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday. The report is slated for discussion in a state cabinet meeting on Saturday and is expected to be approved. Subsequently, it will be presented in the assembly during a special session scheduled from February 5 to 8, paving the way for Uttarakhand to become the first state post-independence to enforce the Uniform Civil Code.
