Uttarakhand cabinet approves UCC report, bill likely to be tabled in Assembly on February 6
Sunday, 4 February 2024 The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report received approval during a meeting at chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's residence on Sunday, as sanctioned by the Uttarakhand Cabinet. The proposal is expected to be presented in the Uttarakhand Assembly on February 6. The drafting committee of the Uniform Civil Code, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, presented the draft to chief minister Dhami on Friday.
On the UCC bill tabled in the Uttarakhand Assembly, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Shiv Arora says, "This is a historic moment for us... What can be a greater happiness than UCC? It gives equal rights to the people. CM Dhami introduced it today..."
