DMK goes to high court against EC rules on poll advert pre-certification
Monday, 15 April 2024 () DMK challenges ECI rules in Madras HC on poll ad certification. HC admits, sets deadline for ECI response by April 17, links with other petitions. ECI cites SC's orders on SLMCMC and rejection order.
On April 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise the content of its Lok Sabha campaign song to adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI guidelines. The AAP was requested to make necessary modifications to the song and resubmit it for certification. “The phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” showing an aggressive mob holding the photo of Arvind Kejriwal showing him behind bars, casts aspersions on the Judiciary. Further, the said phrase appears several times in the advertisement which contravenes the provisions of ECI Guidelines and Rule 6(1(g) of Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994” (DISPLAY) said ECI.
