Ayesha Hazarika, a journalist, broadcaster, and stand-up comic of British-Indian descent with Assamese roots, has been appointed as a member of the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the British Parliament. Born in Bellshill in 1975, she comes from an Indian Muslim family and was raised in Coatbridge, Scotland.
