Should IAS officers appraise forest babus, wonders Supreme Court

The Supreme Court sought assistance from solicitor general Tushar Mehta to address the grievance of IFS officers against IAS officers writing their performance appraisal reports. IFS officers argue that IAS officers lack understanding of forest conservation intricacies. The SC has warned of possible contempt proceedings if the contentious office order is not withdrawn. Four states already have similar rules.
