The India Meteorological Department issued health risk warnings due to a heatwave affecting Konkan, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, and southwest Rajasthan. Temperatures have soared above normal, with Pune reaching 40.2°C. Vulnerable populations are advised to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated. Some regions might see a temperature decline from Thursday, as Maharashtra's Akola reached 41.3°C, the state's highest.

The Drowning Prevention Awareness campaign, launched on World Drowning Prevention Day (25 July), is a heartfelt initiative by the Hemant Bala Advaitha (HBA) Foundation. Sparked by the tragic loss of 18-year-old music prodigy Advaitha Verma—who drowned in Pawna Lake in India's Pune, in June 2024—his parents Sudesh Verma and Renu Kaul Verma turned their grief into purpose. This Drowning Prevention Awareness campaign aims to educate, inform and prevent such avoidable tragedies nationwide. Backed by the WHO and inspired by the UN resolution of 2021, the Drowning Prevention Awareness movement highlights the urgent need for safety, education and community action.
