30 years after taking Rs 500 bribe, retired Karnataka official lands in jail; Supreme Court overturns HC acquittal; all about the case

After a 30-year legal battle, a retired village accountant in Karnataka has been jailed following a Supreme Court ruling. Nagesh Dondu Shivangekar was convicted of accepting a Rs 500 bribe in 1995. The Supreme Court overturned a High Court acquittal, reinstating a one-year prison sentence initially handed down in 2006, finally bringing the long-standing case to a close.
