Chicago keeping hundreds of migrants at airports while waiting on shelters

IndiaTimes Monday, 2 October 2023
Chicago is facing challenges in housing asylum-seekers, leading to hundreds of migrants living in a shuttle bus centre at O'Hare International Airport. The migrants sleep on cardboard pads and share airport bathrooms, while their movements are monitored by a private company. Chicago's use of airports for housing is unusual and raises concerns about safety and the treatment of those fleeing violence and poverty. The city plans to introduce winterized tents for accommodation in the near future. Most of the migrants arriving in Chicago are from Venezuela.
