An Arab paramedic who treated Israelis injured by Hamas militants is remembered as a hero
Sunday, 15 October 2023 Awad Darawshe, an Israeli Arab paramedic, was killed while trying to save lives during a Hamas attack at a music festival in southern Israel. Despite being ordered to evacuate, Darawshe chose to stay, believing he could mediate with the attackers due to his Arabic language skills. His family, part of Israel's Palestinian Arab minority, is proud of his bravery. The attack left over 260 Israelis dead. Darawshe's death was confirmed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which called him a hero.
"We have updated the families of 199 hostages," says Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari, revising up an earlier figure of 155 captives, Israeli and foreigners alike, as he gives remarks on day 10 of the Gaza war.
