Pope orders reopening of case of prominent priest accused of abuse

IndiaTimes Friday, 27 October 2023
Pope Francis has ordered a review of the Church's handling of the case of Father Marko Ivan Rupnik, an artist who was expelled from the Jesuit religious order due to allegations of sexual, psychological, and spiritual abuse of adult women. The pope made this decision after a Vatican commission raised concerns about the handling of the case and the lack of outreach to victims. Rupnik, who has been accused by around 25 people, could potentially be defrocked as a result of the reopening of the case. The Jesuits and the Vatican's doctrinal department have faced criticism for their handling of the matter.
