Israel rebuffs US push for humanitarian pause, says hostages must be released first
Friday, 3 November 2023 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US calls for a humanitarian pause in the Israel-Hamas war, stating that they will continue unless the hostages held by Hamas are released. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has also stated that his group is undeterred by US warnings to stay out of the war. Israeli troops have closed in on Gaza City, launching targeted attacks on militant cells. The death toll in the conflict continues to rise, with over 9,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis killed.
The six-day humanitarian pause was set to expire Thursday morning, but will be extended, with Hamas hanging over two more Israeli hostages on Thursday evening.
