UK can't deport migrants to Rwanda: SC

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 15 November 2023
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced plans to pass an emergency law in response to a ruling by the UK's top judges that his scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was unlawful. Sunak stated that he is working on a new treaty with Rwanda to designate it as a safe destination for migrants. He also warned that Britain could potentially leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in order to proceed with deportation flights. The Rwanda scheme is a key element of Sunak's immigration policy ahead of next year's elections.
