Finland to shut entire border with Russia over migrant concerns
Tuesday, 28 November 2023 Finland will close its entire border with Russia for two weeks to halt the large flow of asylum seekers. The Finnish government believes this is an orchestrated move by Moscow. Previously, all but one border crossing was shut, but now even the northernmost crossing will close. The decision means only cargo trains can pass between the two countries. Finland accuses Russia of funnelling people to the border in retaliation for increased defence cooperation with the US.
Finland's prime minister said Wednesday that the country will close all but its northernmost border crossing with Russia, following a surge in migrants which Helsinki claims Russia is intentionally pushing.
