Israel pounds Gaza targets after US vetos rare UN ceasefire bid

IndiaTimes Saturday, 9 December 2023
Israel bombarded Gaza after the US blocked a UN bid for a ceasefire in the war with Hamas. Aid workers warn of an "apocalyptic" humanitarian situation as Gaza's system collapses. The Palestinian Authority and Hamas condemn the US veto. The latest death toll in Gaza is 17,490, mostly women and children. Israeli strikes killed six people in Khan Yunis and five in Rafah. The UN says 80% of the population is displaced with dire shortages of food, fuel, and medicine.
