Brazil to mark anniversary of January 8 attack on democracy

IndiaTimes Monday, 8 January 2024
Brazil will hold ceremonies celebrating its democratic system one year after a right-wing mob vandalized Brazil's Congress, Supreme Court, and presidential palace. President Lula and Congressional leaders will speak at the event. Lula emphasized the importance of the Three Powers defending democracy. The assault on Brasilia's government buildings was similar to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Most of the 2,000 people arrested for the attack were later released. Bolsonaro is under investigation for allegedly masterminding the riots, something he denies.
