Jhumpa Lahiri turns down award over New York museum's kaffiyeh ban

IndiaTimes Thursday, 26 September 2024
Jhumpa Lahiri, an India-origin author, has declined the 2024 Isamu Noguchi Award from the Noguchi Museum in Queens. This move is in protest against the museum's updated dress code policy, which resulted in firing three employees for wearing kaffiyehs to show solidarity with Palestinians. The policy bans clothing or accessories displaying political messages.
