A London judge should rule in favor of Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, without a trial in her privacy case against a tabloid newspaper because the publication has no prospect of winning, the British royal's lawyers said on Tuesday. Emily Wither reports.
The publication of an “intrinsically private, personal and sensitive” lettersent by the Duchess of Sussex to her estranged father was a “plain and seriousinvasion” of privacy, her lawyers have told the High Court. Meghan, 39, issuing the publisher of The Mail On Sunday and MailOnline over a series ofarticles which reproduced parts of the handwritten letter sent to 76-year-oldThomas Markle in August 2018. She is seeking damages for alleged misuse ofprivate information, copyright infringement and breach of the Data ProtectionAct over five articles, published in February 2019, which included extractsfrom the “private and confidential” letter to her father.

Japanese car maker Nissan has confirmed it will maintain its operation in Britain, as a result of the post-Brexit trade deal between the UK and the EU.
The future of the company’s plant in Sunderland was thrown into doubt following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union in June 2016.
The car maker employs around 6,000 people at its plant in the northeast of England.
Nissan also said it will move production of the batteries used in its Leaf electric cars to the UK, a move that is likely to create more jobs on Wearside.
