Man warned by police after swimming in the River Thames
A man was given a police warning after taking his daily exercise to the extreme - by SWIMMING in the River Thames. The topless man appeared to be in his mid-40s appeared and was six foot tall with short brown hair. He was spotted swimming near Battersea Bridge, south west London. Personal trainer Marta Konik, 36, was on a daily walk with her boyfriend when she saw five police officers and people stopping to look in the river. She said: "People were stopping and looking down, pointing at him - I think he caused a bit of confusion. "I think people were just thinking 'what is he doing?'"He was already swimming - it looked like he was swimming towards the edge. "I saw the police officers walking from one side to the other, so it looked like they were waiting for him - maybe he was taking a while to come out. "When he came out he was in his shorts - he was quite tall, I would say just under 186cm, close to 190cm, in his mid-40s."Marta said that once out of the river, the man approached a woman sitting on a bench with a backpack - she assumes this was his partner. Marta added: "On the pavement later on, an older lady with her husband, in their mid-60s, was talking to him. "She must have been watching them as well from the bridge - she stopped him as she was walking. "We only heard something like ''well done to you' - she was laughing."New Scotland Yard Press Bureau said: "Police were called at 17:31 on Sunday April 26 to reports of concern for the welfare of a man in the River Thames by Battersea Bridge. "Police attended and the man exited the water. "LAS were called as a precaution, however he did not require any treatment. "Officers spoke to the man and gave him strong words of advice around the dangers of swimming in the Thames.
