At least 789 residents of northern India's Himachal Pradesh state, who were trapped across the southern part of the country, returned home via elaborate rail arrangements made by the administration.

The incident took place at Una railway station in Himachal Pradesh on May 13.

According to reports, Una district administration had made extensive arrangements to receive the passengers at the railway station.

Initially, 1425 Himachali people, who had been stranded in different parts of Karnataka during the lockdown, had applied for evacuation from the over 1000-mile-distance.

However, only 789 made it to the railway station before the departure of the Shramik Superfast Express train.

Deputy Commissioner informed that the district-wise count of passengers who are in the train was 32 from Bilaspur, 167 from Chamba, 98 from Hamirpur, 212 from Kangra, five from Kinnaur, 30 from Kullu, one from Lahaul Spiti, 66 from Mandi, 85 from Shimla, 14 from Sirmour, 58 from Solan and 21 from Una.

The passengers arriving on the train will be dropped at the district-wise railway station.

The passengers were provided with packets containing hand sanitiser, mask and packed food.

Preliminary medical screening was done to individuals showing symptoms of corona infection.

After landing at the destination, the passengers were asked to follow social distancing rules and were screened for coronavirus.

While the symptomatic patients will be quarantined at Una for a swab test, others will be sent to their respective districts in state transport buses.
