IMD on Friday said that the heatwave has abated in Northwest India.

It added that thunderstorms with light rain are likely over Delhi and parts of Northwest India.

The weather department further said that monsoon is expected to hit Kerala on June 1.

Advent of monsoon over Indian mainland is marked by monsoon onset over Kerala.

It's an important indicator, characterising transition from hot and dry to rainy season.

As monsoon progresses northward, relief from scorching summer temperature is experienced.
