Governor Gavin Newsom moves forward to increase minimum wage increase in 2021

Governor Gavin Newsom says people here in California can expect to see the minimum wage jump from $13 to $14 starting January 1.

August.## governor gavin newsom says: california's minimum wage increase is still moving forward.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Action news now reporter ana torrea is live in redding and explains how the wage hike can help people.

The coronavirus pandemic forced many employers to layoff workers.

And even though we're still in the middle of the pandemic - governor newsom still planning to increase minimum wage to 14 dollars per hour as planned.

That's roughly a 21 hundred dollar a year increase based on a 40 hour work week.

I feel like it would be a big step up for a lot of workers and it would give them a lot of motivation to work harder ((butt to)) i still don't think it would be enough to fulfill the essential needs that people will need, that might good enough for rent, but you still need to take into account groceries, utilities, and even pocket money just to do stuff on your own.

> businesses with more than 26 employees can see minimum wage jump to 14- dollars an hour - those with 25 employees or less will see minimum increase to 13-dollars.

But how are businesses prepping for the upcoming wage hike?

I spoke with one local business in redding: with how she's trying to make sure all her employees get paid while dealing with the coronavirus.

I'll have her story at 5.

Live in redding, ana torrea, action news now coverage you can count on.

Right now: minimum wage in california is 13- dollars.

And continuing
