6 Rohingyas arrested from Anand Vihar Railway Station: Police

Delhi Police has arrested six Rohingyas from Anand Vihar Railway Station after receiving inputs about their arrival in the national capital from Tripura by a special train on January 06.

DCP (East) Deepak Kumar said, "On January 6, we received information that some suspected Rohingyas were coming to Delhi from Tripura by a special train.

The train was to reach Anand Vihar Railway Station.

A team was deployed there and 6 Myanmar nationals were detained based on suspicion.

They were interrogated and sent to the detention centre as or the order of FRRO.

An FIR has been registered in this case and investigation is underway."

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava during the weekly press briefing, on Rohingya refugees said that were stranded on a boat, and the government is in discussion with Bangladesh for their safe and secure repatriation. Explaining the incident, Anurag Srivastava said, "On 11th February, a boat sailed from Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh carrying 90 people. The engine of the boat failed on February 15, since then it has been drifting. 8 occupants have died and 1 occupant was missing since February 15. 47 occupants have 'displaced Myanmar nationals' IDs issued by UNHCR."

The political dynamics of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is constantly taking new twists with swinging alliances. Only a week back, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally IPFT (Indigenous People's Front of Tripura) forming an alliance with the newly formed The Indigenous People's Regional Alliance (TIPRA) party under the leadership of former Congress chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman on the demand of 'Tipraland'. However, on Friday, IPFT kept itself away from the rally on demand of 'Greater Tipraland.' In fact, a new ally Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl was seen accompanying Deb Barman who sometime back had resigned as the Congress party chief of Tripura. Demand for 'Greater Tipraland' is for every indigenous area or village outside the TTAADC area and through integration for preserving the identity and culture of Tipra community.

Tripura organises workshop to popularize bamboo for industrial and domestic application

To promote and popularize bamboo for industrial and domestic application, a workshop was organized at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on March 1. The workshop was organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Advanced Materials and Process Research Institute CSIR-AMPRI, Bhopal, and Tripura State Council for Science and Technology organized the workshop. Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp in presence of other dignitaries. During the workshop, scientists and researchers interacted with bamboo growers and producers beside various entrepreneurs. Demonstrations were given on sustainable utilization of bamboo through the integration of the environment, society, and economy. Tripura is one of the major growers of bamboo that has tremendous untapped potential for transforming the rural economy. The state under the Tripura Bamboo Mission (TBM) has been working on propagation, cultivation, processing, value addition, and product development from bamboo.

Science centre worth Rs 6 crore inaugurated in Tripura

A science centre worth Rs 6 crore under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPOCS) was launched in Udaipur in Tripura. Tripura Governor Ramesh Bais in presence of Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture (IC) Prahlad Singh Patel, Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma, Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, MP Pratima Bhowmik, and other dignitaries inaugurated the Udaipur Science Centre on Feb 28. The primary objective of the centre is to engage, educate and entertain the visitors, especially students, through thematic exhibitions, interactive educational activities, and outreach programme through hands-on-approach which can understand the basic principle of science. It is the 22nd centre in the country and is a unit of the National Council of Science Museum under the Ministry of Culture of the government of India.
