'Exercise maximum restraint': UN rights body cautions on farmers' protest

The UN human rights office called on Indian authorities and farmers to exercise maximum restraint.

It said that it is crucial to find ‘equitable solutions’ with due respect to human rights for all.

The Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) made the statement on Twitter.

It said that the rights to peaceful assembly and expression should be protected both offline and online.

Thousands of farmers have been camping at different Delhi borders for over 70 days.

The farmers mostly from Punjab, Haryana demand a complete repeal of the three farm laws.

Multiple rounds of talks between govt and farmer unions have remained deadlocked.

Protests against farm laws that were enacted in September last year began on November 28.
