All India NR Congress (AINRC) president N Rangasamy took oath as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on May 07. The oath was administered by Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. AINRC won 10 seats in Assembly elections while its ally BJP bagged six seats.
Oath taking ceremony of newly elected MLAs of Bengal was held inside the state Legislative Assembly on May 07. MLAs of West Bengal took oath as members of the state assembly in Kolkata. All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) got an absolute majority on its own by bagging 213 seats in the 294-member assembly. While BJP ended with 38% vote-share, it won 77 seats and became principal opposition party in WB.
Ahead of the Assembly polls in West Bengal, Bengali actors Rajshree Rajbanshi and Bonny Sengupta joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 10. The actors have been inducted into the party in the presence of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh. Recently, Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty joined BJP on March 7 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29.
A four-member MHA team visited Diamond Harbour area in South 24 Parganas district on May 07. MHA deputed the team to assess ground situation amid post-poll violence in Bengal. Violence has been reported in several parts of West Bengal after assembly results.
A clash broke out between TMC and BJP workers in Domjur Assembly constituency ahead of sealing of EVMs after 4th phase of Assembly elections concluded. Soon after TMC poll strategist Prashant Kishor audio clip leaked in which he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee equally popular in the Bengal Assembly polls, two time former TMC MLA and now BJP leader Rajib Banerjee said that Kishor strategy has failed in Bengal. "Prashant Kishor's strategy will not work in Bengal, his strategy has failed. TMC has finished here. In Bengal, only Narendra Modi's strategy will work," said BJP's Banerjee.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah campaigned in West Bengal's Domjur on Aprli 7. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Trinamool Congress rebel Rajib Banerjee from the seat. Banerjee accompanied Shah during the latter's roadshow. Later, the duo eat a meal at a rickshaw-puller's house. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar cast his vote in the eighth phase of assembly polls. The governor was accompanied by his wife Sudesh Dhankhar who also cast her vote. Dhankhar and his wife voted at a polling station in Chowringhee in Kolkata. BJP's Mithun Chakraborty also cast his vote in the eighth phase of Bengal Assembly polls. The actor-turned-leader voted at a polling booth in Kashipur-Belgachia of North Kolkata. Congratulating the security personnel, Mithun said he never voted so peacefully before. Meanwhile, BJP chief JP Nadda urged Bengal voters to cast their votes while following Covid norms. Voting is underway at 35 constituencies in four districts of West Bengal. As many as 283 candidates are in the fray in the last phase of the Assembly elections. The counting of votes for Bengal polls will take place on May 2.

Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty cast his vote for the final phase of WB polls on Apr 29 at a polling station in Kashipur-Belgachia in North Kolkata. We will tolerate everything till April 21, we won't let violence mar elections,” Mithun said. Mithun, however, led a roadshow in Tollygunge for BJP's candidate Babul Supriyo. “It is a shameful incident, didi (Mamata Banerjee) is scared of defeat. She is trying to kill democracy through violence as always. They also did not give permission to campaign here, but we managed to do it,” Babul said.
