Maharashtra Government on Tuesday announced a 15-day long statewide curfew from April 14 amid the spike in coronavirus cases in the state. The curfew, which excludes essential services, will come into effect from 8 pm on Wednesday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said in his address via social media to people of the state. Section 144 (prohibitory orders) of the Criminal Procedure Code will be in force till the "lockdown-like" restrictions are in place, Thackeray said. Watch the full video for more details.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar rejected claims of shortage in Covid-19 vaccine supply. Javadekar accused the Maharashtra government of wasting five lakh doses during the vaccination process. This comes as health ministers of some states said that there is a shortage of vaccines and demanded more doses from the Centre. Maharashtra Health minister Rajesh Tope accused the Centre of supplying less number of vaccines. Tope said that the state has only two days of stock of Covid-19 vaccines. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan met US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry on Wednesday. The dignitaries held talks on several issues including energy and technology. The meeting took place in New Delhi. John Kerry is on a four-day visit to India, from April 5 to April 8. Kerry earlier met union ministers S Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javadekar. Kerry is here to prepare for US President Joe Biden’s Climate Change Summit on April 22.

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Thursday said there is no problem in the Shiv Sena-Congress alliance and asserted that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will complete its full term. Patole said Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's remark about Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar becoming the UPA chairperson is wrong. "Sanjay Raut is a Shiv Sena MP. Shiv Sena is not a United Progressive Alliance (UPA) member. He has not become NCP MP. We have told Chief Minister that such statements are wrong and he should tell him. On MVA alliance amid political turmoil in Maharashtra, state Congress chief Nana Patole said that the government will run for 5 years and BJP's allegations do not matter. He said, "There will be no problem. 'Ye Fevicol ka mazboot jod hai'. The government will go on for 5 years. They (BJP) may level as many false allegations as they want, it won't affect the govt. Clash broke out between BJP and TMC workers during a roadshow of party state president Dilip Ghosh's in West Bengal's Bardhaman on April 13. Party workers of BJP, TMC pelted stones at each other.
