Ahead of Assembly elections for phase III in West Bengal, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan held a roadshow in Tollygunge supporting TMC candidate Aroop Biswas. SP led by its chief Akhilesh Yadav has pledged support to the TMC for the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal.
Amid election fever in West Bengal, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Jaya Bachchan visited the state on April 05, to extend party's support to All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). She praised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for "single-handedly fighting and struggling during elections". "A single woman is fighting against all the atrocities. Head broken, leg broken but they have not been able to break her heart, brain, and her determination to move ahead and make Bengal one of the best in the world... That's why I am here because Mamata Banerjee, a single lady is fighting and struggling to preserve the rights of every individual of Bengal," said Jaya Bachchan.

TMC supporters started protesting outside the Raj Bhawan, residence of Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar over the arrests of ministers and TMC leaders. The CBI on Monday launched parallel raids and later arrested TMC heavyweights and ministers Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee and MLA Madan Mitra in its probe on the Narada sting case. Within hours, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the CBI office.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. Taking to Twitter, Adityanath said he is in self-isolation and doing tasks virtually. On Tuesday, the CM isolated himself after some staffers in his office tested positive. Development comes shortly after the UP CM wrapped up his campaign for Bengal polls. Adityanath took the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine on April 05 at a Civil Hospital in Lucknow. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has tested positive for coronavirus. Yadav had recently visited Haridwar where Kumbh Mela is underway & met religious leaders. Uttar Pradesh urban development minister Ashutosh Tandon has also tested positive. UP govt has already announced restrictions on gatherings of people in view of Covid. Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday reported highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 cases and 85 deaths. Adityanath govt has also imposed a night curfew in districts with over 500 active cases.

Polling began at 7 am for 44 seats in the fourth phase of West Bengal assembly polls. Long queues of voters were seen outside polling stations across five districts. Voting, which will continue till 6:30 pm, is underway with adherence to Covid protocols. Elections are being held in Howrah, South 24 Parganas, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Hooghly. Over 1.15 crore voters will exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 373 candidates. High-profile candidates include Babul Supriyo, Partha Chatterjee and Arup Biswas. Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful voting. As many as 789 companies of central armed police forces have been deployed to guard 15,940 booths. State police forces have also been deployed at strategic locations to aid central forces. Elections for 294 seats in Bengal are being held in eight phases, results on May 2.

Polling began at 7 am on April 10 for the fourth phase of West Bengal Assembly elections. People queued up at a polling station in Domjur Assembly constituency in Howrah to exercise their franchise. This phase of elections will witness an intense battle between 373 candidates in 44 constituencies. A total of 1,15,81,022 voters will participate in this phase. The fifth phase of the Assembly elections will commence on April 17. Counting of votes will take place on May 02.
Former West Bengal minister and current BJP candidate from Domjur assembly constituency in Howrah, Rajib Banerjee shared his experience with the TMC. He said that the party pushes back talented people and only promotes 'Bhatija'. "There is a limited company like situation, where people follow orders of the top boss. Some selected people, who only do 'yes and no' they get the chance not the people who are dedicatedly doing their work," he said.
