Federal Protections Restored for Gray Wolves Across Much of the US
Federal Protections , Restored for Gray Wolves , Across Much of the US.
On February 10, a California judge restored
federal protections for gray wolves
across much of the United States.
.
According to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White,
the Fish and Wildlife Service had failed to show that wolf
populations could be sustained without protection.
.
That protection, throughout the Midwest
and portions of the West, will come
under the Endangered Species Act.
.
Last year, advocates sued the agency,
claiming that state-sponsored hunting
threatened to reverse the species' recovery.
.
Yahoo reports that the gray wolf's recovery from
near-extinction has widely been considered
a historic victory for conservation efforts.
.
According to advocacy groups,
the latest order would immediately halt
the hunting of wolves in the Great Lakes region.
.
In 2021, Wisconsin officials came under fire
after a state-organized wolf hunt resulted
in the death of 218 wolves in just four days.
.
Wolves in the Great Lakes
region have a stay of execution, John Horning, WildEarth Guardians, via Yahoo.
That "stay of execution", does not apply, to all wolves in the nation.
.
Recent laws passed in some Western
states undermine state wildlife managers
by promoting precipitous reductions
in wolf populations, ...the same kind
of practices that nearly wiped out
wolves during the last century, Deb Haaland, Interior Secretary Op-ed, via Yahoo.
Yahoo reports that wolves, once ranging across most
of the U.S., were driven to near-extinction by the 1930s
under government poisoning and trapping campaigns.

Red Lobster Announces, Nearly 100 Locations , Will Be Shut Down.
NBC reports that approximately 99 Red Lobster locations
will be auctioned off as the seafood chain faces
questions regarding the company's long-term future.
Founder and CEO of the liquidation firm TAGeX Brands,
Neal Sherman, said he would lead the closure of over
50 locations in a May 13 LinkedIn post.
Sherman said equipment from the
locations will be auctioned off.
Locations will reportedly be closed across
the United States, including Denver,
Indianapolis, California and New York.
On May 14, Restaurant Business Magazine reported
a total of 99 locations would close, representing
about 15% of the company's 700 locations. .
NBC reports that the largest seafood
restaurant in the U.S. has struggled with debt,
unfavorable leases and executive turnover.
The chain's troubles also stem from ill-advised
strategies like an all-you-can-eat-shrimp promotion
in 2023 that resulted in a significant loss.
Earlier in 2024, the chain's largest investor,
Thai Union, announced that it would
seek to exit its position. .
The combination of Covid-19 pandemic,
sustained industry headwinds, higher
interest rates and rising material and
labor costs have impacted Red Lobster,
resulting in prolonged negative
financial contributions to
Thai Union and its shareholders, Thiraphong Chansiri, Thai Union Group’s CEO, via NBC.
After detailed analysis, we have
determined that Red Lobster’s
ongoing financial requirements
no longer align with our capital
allocation priorities and
therefore are pursuing an exit
of our minority investment, Thiraphong Chansiri, Thai Union Group’s CEO, via NBC

‘New York Times’ Poll , Indicates Trouble for Biden.
Donald Trump was found to be "leading in
five out of six swing states," 'The Hill' reports. .
Wisconsin is the only swing
state where Biden is leading.
In 2020, Biden won all six swing states.
The May 13 poll also indicated that support for Biden is dwindling among young voters,
as well as Black and Hispanic voters.
What’s so impressive about this is
polls have historically underestimated
Trump’s support, not overestimated
Trump’s support, Ford O’Connell, a Republican strategist, via 'The Hill'.
And then if you couple this poll
with nearly 100,000 people

Biden supporters, however, say that polling conducted this far away from election day should be taken with a grain of salt.
The only consistency in recent
public polls is inconsistency. , Geoff Garin, Biden campaign pollster, via 'The Hill'.
These results need to be weighed against

broad conclusions about the race based
on results from one poll is a mistake. , Geoff Garin, Biden campaign pollster, via 'The Hill'.

close attention to the election and have not
