President Putin's Victory Day address emphasised Russia's resilience and commitment to its armed forces amidst ongoing conflicts, including in Ukraine. However, this year's parade featured only one tank, symbolising Russia's military presence. Putin also criticised Western nations for colonial policies, while the parade showcased a display of nuclear warheads and various weapons systems. The event commemorated the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, with over 300 cities participating in ceremonial parades across Russia.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of the Belgorod region disclosed on Telegram, "The city of Belgorod and the Belgorod district faced an air attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, resulting in direct hits on residential apartment buildings and vehicles." He further stated, "Preliminary reports indicate eight casualties, including seven adults and one child." In response to the heightened tensions, Belgorod, along with other Russian regions bordering Ukraine, has scrapped its military parade and other Victory Day celebrations.
