Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has announced that the UK has sanctioned Iran's prosecutor general following the execution of dual British-Iranian national Alireza Akbari on spy charges.
Mr Cleverly said he had also summoned the senior official of the Iranian government in the UK and temporarily withdrew the ambassador from Tehran.

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk.
