Wagner mercenary chief says his fighters are pulling out of Bakhmut
The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group said on Thursday his troops have started transferring their positions in the flashpoint eastern Ukraine city of Bakhmut to the Russian military.
Ukraine has unexpectedly postponed a planned exchange of prisoners of war and bodies of fallen soldiers, despite agreements reached during negotiations in Istanbul. Russian envoy Vladimir Medinsky stated that Kyiv failed to send its delegation or provide a finalized list of POWs, leaving thousands of Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies in cold storage. Russia, claiming full readiness to proceed, released footage of the frozen remains awaiting transfer. The delay, said to be “for an indefinite period,” has drawn criticism for depriving families of proper burials and violating earlier commitments.
